CELL PHONE WOES
This past week I got a new phone which I really needed. My phone would no longer hold a charge, the screen was cracked, had been dropped numerous times---it was just old. So I get this new phone and was just starting to get the dumb thing figured out. Then low and behold I discovered that this particular phone does not send text pictures nor receive them. What???? I paid way more for this phone than the last one, and it was a lot more expensive than some of the other phones. Price does not mean a thing. I am so disgusted. Why have the feature of a camera if you can't send pictures? Why have the feature on your plan if it does not apply? It is like handing you a phone and saying, "Here is your phone. The only deal is that is does not make nor receive phone calls." I am going to find a dealer soon and get this problem rectified.

Too Many To-Do's
This is how I have felt the past few days. Too much to do. I have made lists and lists. I love the holiday times, but sometimes I make things too difficult. I just got a new phone and am so dense that it seems I will never figure it out. I have plenty of house chores to take care of ---cleaning, cooking, laundry, etc. I have shopping to do, Christmas decorating, Christmas gifts to purchase, menu planning, email to keep up with (haha) and of course, now I am adding one more thing---this blog.
Actually, this is a lot more fun than some of that other stuff I have on the back burner. Some of it may stay there and burn before I get it done. Then there is the upcoming job interview I really need to prepare for. Brian is looking like the shaggy D.A., so hair cut is on my list too. My exercise has pretty much dwindled to nothing---but I did get in a run today. I admire you people who are expert in juggling time, work, and fun and still have sanity. Ok---so it's time to de-stress and just go with the one day at a time, one project, one job/task approach.

INDOOR PICNIC
We went to Aurora on Friday to visit Brad, Cindy, and of course, Bethany. We had a ton of fun. Brad went and got hot dogs and the fixings and the items to make smores. I have never had an indoor wiener roast ( or weenie roast as some say). The hot dogs were delicious and it was just plain ol' fun. Brad and Cindy are great hosts. Bethany was her sweet self. What a precious baby. You can tell she is the delight of her mama and daddy's life. Her smiles come easily to charm us. She loves her mama and adores her daddy. Bethany seems to love tv. She may already have an addiction. haha Yes, Brad, you are responsible for this one. : ) Whether it is the colors, the light, or the constant movement, the tv is something Bethany can zone in on for some time. Thanks to the Hall Family for a great weekend!
Brian and Cindy roasting hot dogs in the fire place. This really works. The smores were yummy! We used organic marshmallows. Supposedly they have some sort of fish oil in them. Tasted great--no fish taste at all.
This is one of Bethany's precious smiles.
This is one of Bethany's "zoned out" looks. It seemed that every time I would try to take a picture of her doing something cute, this is what I got instead. haha Expressions change very quickly. Even Bethany's zoned look is cute!

BRRR!
It's that time of year. Up until yesterday, I was beginning to think that I would not even get my boots out this year. There is hope yet. We had our first snow yesterday even though it was just enough to cover the grass. Hopefully there will be more to come. This has been an extremely dry year. So "let it snow, let it snow, let it snow". All I need now is a nice warm cozy fireplace and a cup of hot chocolate. YUM! Too bad we don't have a fireplace, but I can have the hot chocolate.

THE OFFICE
Right now I feel like I am living a scene that would be found on "The Office". Such drama and goings on. Seems that we continually have the rumor mill in action---office gossip abounds. There is the drama of hiring, firing, and moving about of employees--- all done in supposed confidence and secret! HA! They must think we are dumb. All I can say is "deliver me from this place!"

Look at the weather forecast for today and next week. Wow! We are still having an Indian Summer. I saw that Denver was to be 80 deg. today! Not that I am complaining. I like the warm, mild weather temps. The thing is that one knows that some day, the thermometer will plummet to frigid readings. BRR! As you can see the weather on Tuesday may bring us a little reminder that winter is on its way. For now, I will soak up the sun and the heat.

Paperless Society
The past two weeks have convinced me more than ever that we are not heading for a paperless society. Our technology has made it easier than ever to produce more and more and more paper. We make copies, copies of copies, and copies in triplicate. In the last two weeks, a co-worker and I have picked up over 200 boxes of documents. The coming week does not look much better in terms of more box storage. So much for less paper.

Treasures
I don't know how you daily bloggers do it. I can barely keep up with the reading much less the posting. Yesterday, Brian and I received a "letter" from Maddy. I realized that even though it was just a piece of paper with stickers on it, that it was a priceless treasure. I look forward to receiving many more of these treasures in the years to come from both Maddy and Bethany. Children are a blessing from God, and grandchildren are a blessing twice over.

MORE IMPROVEMENTS ON THE WAY
Our deck has been a mess every since we moved here, but we have never had time to fix it. We had a bad hail storm in July that caused a lot of roof damage. When the insurance inspector came out, he said he would be including our deck in the damage. We just got lucky. ha Anyway, that is what Brian has been working on these days. I have been the "go-fer" and the "holder". The deck is starting to take shape and should be ready to weather the storms soon. We will really enjoy having a nice looking deck. Here are a few pictures of what has been done so far.
Even though this is a picture of when we were siding the house, you can see what a mess our deck was. The old ugly green paint is going to be history!!!! We will be putting up new rails as well. Can't wait to see the finished project.

LIVING LIFE AND LOVING IT
My camera is not working correctly right now, so I don't have any really new pics that most of you have not already seen. The thing I think I have noticed lately is that so many people enjoy life. Children really love life. They just enjoy each moment as it comes. Not that they are happy all the time, but they are content and at peace with themselves and whatever life happens to be at that moment.
Here are a few pics of "living life and loving it".

HUMBLED AND NOT LIKING IT
This morning we decided to do The Incline. This is a trail that is 1 mile long, but you gain about 2,000 ft. in elevation. The trail is an old cog railway that went up to a restaurant. The entire way is steps made of railroad ties. It is a grueling hike. Below is the picture of us starting up. You cannot see the top from the bottom. What's more is that you appear to be getting close to the top; then you see that there is a rise and more steps and further to go.
When we first started, I was ahead. I was walking a pretty good pace---for me. I had to stop several times. The worst part was not the lack of air, but the lack of strength in my quads. The tops of my thighs felt like they were going to burst. Brian just kept trudging on and on. Then (me being the really nice one) stopped and waited for him to catch up. BAD mistake. From there he continued his steady pace, stopping here and there, but not for long. I could not keep the steady pace. I would have to stop and let my thighs rest. I have always said the Brian has those "tree trunk" legs. He proved it today. Brian has always been the machine when it comes to hiking the mountain trails. He beat me to the top by about 3 mins. , or so Brian says. It seemed a lot longer. At one point I made up my mind not to look up any more. Just keep the head down and get one foot in front to the other, one step at a time. That did help. The next picture is a view of looking down The Incline after reaching the top.
Here is me trudging up the last few yards. Below is the town of Manitou Springs.
Here is Brian looking at the picture he took of me and enjoying his victory. He is resting a bit before heading down Bar Trail.
Here is another picture from the top. Those at the top would yell encouragement to their friends still making their way up.
Then it was time to go down. We headed down, down, down...... This is where I excelled. I had to redeem myself some way. I decided to run down the trail to give my legs an opposite workout. This was the easy part for me. Brian was behind me, but at some point I left him behind. HA! Sweet revenge. I ran all the way back to the van. That is one of the bad things about Manitou. You have to park WAY down the street from the starting point. Brian came in about 5 mins. later ....I think.
It definitely was a huge workout. I did learn some things from our adventure today.
1) You need a decent breakfast. I had only a granola bar and a couple of strawberry newtons. Brian had an egg. Probably, one needs to eat a good breakfast, wait about an hour, and then start.
2) Hiking up The Incline is NOT the same as running.
3) I will NOT be running up the mountain at the Ascent. Not possible for me. I am now just hoping to finish and get to the top.
4) I am much more competitive than I thought. I has killed me all afternoon that I did not at least tie with Brian in reaching the top. "Pride goes before a fall". That is a TRUE proverb.
5) I am going to have to train a lot more if I am going to hit the top of Pikes Peak.
Overall it was a good experience, but it is definitely not something that I want to do every day.
